Our Ministries
Cathedral Choir
Ss. Peter and Paul has a rich history of choral singing and dedication to the beauty of the Divine Services. We continue to sing acapella (according to the Tradition of the Orthodox Church). We embrace not only 4-part harmony musical settings, but also Byzantine Chant and are working towards offering more sacred music in the Spanish language.
"Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless his name: proclaim his salvation from day to day." (Psalm 96:1-2)

Kids Church School
We believe that it is vitally important to educate our youngest members in the depths of the Orthodox Faith. We do this by offering church school class to the children on Sundays at 12:30pm during the school year. Our classes delve into Orthodox Theology in a way for the children to understand and appreciate. This growing ministry at Ss. Peter and Paul has been a tremendous blessing and parents are glad to see their kids learning more about the Faith. (We also have a playground in our enclosed church courtyard for the children to play.)
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14)
Adult Education Classes
Continuing our education in the Orthodox Faith as adults is necessary if we are to maintain our focus on becoming more like Jesus Christ. To this end, we offer a cycle of educational opportunities on various topics, such as: Scripture, Theology, Liturgics, and Patristics. All of our classes are designed to be accessible for everyone, regardless of prior knowledge, and we welcome inquirers, catechumens, life-long Orthodox, and anything in between.
"Cease listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge." (Proverbs 19:27)

The Garden
Just as we are striving to cultivate the soil of our hearts so that we can bear fruit well-pleasing unto God, we find it meaningful to grow a garden here at Ss. Peter and Paul. Over the years, our church garden has provided vegetables for our community and is a physical reminder of the work it takes to grow in our Faith. Typically we plant a variety of fruits and vegetables as well as beautiful flowers, which adorn our church campus.
"For as the earth brings forth its bud, As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations." (Isaiah 61:11)
The ODO Meal
Every Sunday we partner with Orthodox Detroit Outreach (ODO)to offer a free sit-down meal to our neighbors in need. Our location in southwest Detroit gives us a prime opportunity to fulfill the commandment of Christ to feed the hungry. This ministry has a true pan-Orthodox character, as different Detroit area parishes and volunteers rotate in serving the Sunday meal. We are always looking for people with a missionary spirit to help serve in this ministry. If you wish to learn more about ODO, please visit this website: https://orthodoxdetroitoutreach.org/
"I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in."
